You may not be a
subscriber to “Ebony,” but I am sure the name “Ebony” rings a bell in your
mind. And for the very few who might not have heard of Ebony, I make bold to
state that Ebony is a magazine that focuses on African-American issues, personalities and interests in a positive and self-affirming manner. It is circulated all over the
world. It is one of the most widely read periodicals the world over.
What is however unknown
to many is the story behind the success of Ebony. The story of Ebony is the
story of grass to grace. It is a story which began from an ordinary man who had
nothing but extraordinary raw conviction.
This man is no other
person than the African-American, John H. Johnson. Johnson hatched the idea of publishing Ebony. His
consuming passion was to make it big as a publisher. Although passionate and
fully convinced that he would become a successful publisher, he had little
knowledge about how he would go about it. He had no money to start with. All he could afford was
his mother’s furniture, which he used as security for $500. Armed with the $500 and raw
conviction, he launched his publishing outfit, grew it steadily until he made
it a global success. Johnson became a huge success until he died.

it take to move from zero to hero? What does it take to start from scratch and

Below are four steps
you can take to move from zero to hero:
- Follow Your Passion
To move from zero to
hero, the first step you must take is to have something you are passionate
about and follow it to a logical conclusion. If you don’t have a passion for
anything, you cannot follow anything to a logical conclusion. Your passion is
your signpost that leads you from zero to hero. What is it you are passionate
about? To move from zero to hero, you must discover your passion and follow it
to a logical conclusion.
- Become Senseless/Illogical
To move from zero to a
hero, the second step you must take is to become senseless or illogical. If you
follow your senses or logic, you are not likely going to move from where you
are to a great height. This is because, by your senses or logic, zero level
is a level where you
have nothing to fall back upon. It is a level where you can’t find anything you
can use as a lever to move from where you are to where you want to go.
One of the signs that
you are following your senses is that you find it difficult to see something
you can use to ginger you to move from zero to a hero. This is where faith
comes in. Faith makes you to see what other cannot see. To a man of faith,
anything is possible. To man of faith, a piece of furniture valued $500 is
enough to launch out with and build a successful global business. But to a man
who follows his senses or logic, an amount of $5 million is not enough to
launch out with and build a successful business. There are people who will want
to pay $5 million to a business plan consultant to draft a business plan for
their proposed business.
To a man who walks by
his raw conviction, paying a sum of $5 million for a business plan is a
colossal waste. John Johnson never contemplated paying for a business plan
before he started his publishing outfit. He already had in his head, the design of
the publishing business he intended to run. All he needed do was to personally
translate the business design in his head into reality, starting with the
little amount he could afford.
To a man who follows
his senses, it is senseless to attempt to start a publishing business with just
$500. But to a man with raw conviction, $500 is enough for a start. The lesson
here is: IF YOU ARE WILLING TO FOLLOW YOUR RAW CONVICTION AND FAITH, YOU CAN
START WITH ANYTHING, HOWEVER LITTLE, AND MOVE FROM ZERO TO A HERO!
- Ignore Negative Prophecies
Negative prophecies are rampant at zero level. When you are at a zero level, negative prophecies are what you will hear always. Unless you are following your conviction and faith, all you hear, see, feel and perceive are doom, gloom and adversity. If you are at zero level, one thing you must watch out against is negative prophesy. At zero level, most people walk with their senses and so all they see is poverty, hopelessness and helplessness. But beyond these, those who walk with their conviction can see prosperity, abundance, hope and help.
Now, the fact that
negative prophesies are rampant does not mean that they are true. They only
become true if you believe them. To move from zero to hero, never believe any
negative prophesy. God does not plan doom for any person. The will of God for
any person is prosperity, success and abundance. You should reject anything
contrary to God’s will for you.
- Follow Your Conviction
Your conviction is the
raw power that propels you to move from zero to hero. If you are convinced
about your passion, you would not get easily discouraged by negative opinion or
anything. The reason many people get easily discouraged and quit is because
they are not so convinced about the goal they are pursuing.
The fact is, people’s
opinion about your destiny doesn’t matter because their opinion is based on
what they can see, feel, touch and perceive at your zero level. But they can’t
see what you are seeing in your mind with your own conviction. And IT IS WHAT
YOU ARE CONVINCED ABOUT THAT DETERMINES YOUR DESTINY!
So, get convinced now
and start following your passion. This is the secret of moving from zero to a
hero.
