Calm the Storm!

I was at UBA Anyigba, Kogi State, Nigeria, on 06/03/14 where I looked up at the Plasma TV on the wall in the bank, and watched one Pastor Faseru preach on the topic, How to Be Amazing (part 7).

The pastor anchored his teaching on Mark 4:35-41. And as he preached, he pounded home thus: “If your business is not thriving, shake the system. If your marriage is not thriving, shake the system. The way to be an amazing person is to step out of your comfort zone to shake the system.”

By his preaching, shaking the system is tantamount to exercising one’s authority as a believer over seemingly impossible situations.
The Storm, The System
The storm is a natural phenomenon that we must confront time and again. As crown of God’s creation, we are given authority over every storm of life. This authority does not include putting an end to the storm permanently. We are not given power to put an end to the storm, but are given power to calm it whenever it threatens to drown us on the sea.
Just as pastor Faseru preached, to be an amazing person, you must not behave the way the disciples of Jesus behave on the stormy sea. Jesus’ disciples were terrified by the storm. JESUS’ REACTION AGAINST THE DISCIPLES’ FEAR IS AN INDICATION THAT GOD EXPECTS US TO HANDLE LIFE’S SITUATION WITH FAITH AND NOT WITH FEAR.
Unto His disciples, the Master Jesus said: “Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?” (Mark 4:40). THE REASON WE ARE DEFEATED MOST TIMES IS THAT WE ALLOW THE THINGS WE SEE, THE WAY WE FEEL, THE THINGS WE PECEIVE, TO SHAKE US. Instead of shaking those things that confront us, we allow ourselves to be shaken by them.
Follow the Master’s Footsteps

ONE SECRET OF VICTORIOUS LIVING THAT I KNOW WILL WORK FOR YOU AND FOR ANYONE IS THAT YOU SHOULD CONSTANTLY ASK YOURSELF WHAT JESUS EXPECTS YOU TO DO IN A PARTICULAR SITUATION. When you are confronted with a particular situation, before you do anything or take any decision, you should ask yourself, “WHAT DOES JESUS EXPECT ME TO DO CONCERNING THIS SITUATION? How does Jesus want me to react concerning this problem?”
In a moment of crisis, perhaps, the best way of rekindling your faith is to ask yourself what the Master will do or what He expects you to do. When your hope is waning and you can no longer hold unto everything you have been believing all these years, what you should do is to sit down and imagine what Jesus expects you to do in such a situation.
Calm the Storm
Do you know that nothing puzzles or destabilizes Jesus? He is always on top of situations. On the stormy sea, He rebuked the storm and said unto the sea: “Peace be still.” And the wind cease and there was calm!

Dear reader, what is that storm that is threatening to drown you on the sea of life? What have you done about it? What are you doing to calm the storm? Like Jesus’ disciples on the stormy sea, are you overwhelmed by the fear of the storm? Are you terrified? Are you sinking already on the stormy sea of life?
The assurance from the Master Jesus is that the financial storm, marital storm, academic storm, failure storm, defeat storm, unemployment storm, recession storm, etc, can be calmed by us. WHAT JESUS EXPECTS US TO DO IS TO CALM THE STORM.

Power to Win

In Luke 10:19, Jesus said: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

We cannot be victorious in life until we begin to operate with the belief that Jesus has given us power to overcome every storm in our life. A person conferred with power must speak with authority. He must not run away or be frightened by challenges. He must face the storm and command, PEACE BE STILL. The declaration of a man clothed with power is Law that every storm must obey.

“For verily I say unto you that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith” (Mark 11: 23).

The two major tasks of a person conferred with authority is to speak and to believe that what he says will come to pass. YOUR VICTORY IS TIED TO YOUR WORDS AND TO YOUR BELIEF. The way to be amazing is to command the storm to cease. “For whatsover is born of God overcometh the world and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4). Get up now and operate with the mentality of one who is endued with power from on high, by saying to the storm, PEACE BE STILL.

As you do this, it is my hope that every storm will calm and you will emerge victorious at the end of the day!
