Daniel’s Downward Trend and Triumph
Daniel
sets a perfect example for us on how to triumph in the midst of adversity.
Daniel was cast into the lion’s den. He did not fall into the lion’s den empty.
He went down with the promises of God’s protection, preservation and promotion.
If Daniel had failed to hold unto God and his promises, he would have been
devoured by the lions. He was thrown into the lion’s den, but he held fast unto
God. He put his trust in God’s love for him even in the face of danger.
And
because he went down with God and His Word, he came up with God’s Word again.
He was in the midst of the lions, right in their den, but they could not hurt
him! Why? Because he held unto God and His Word at all times. Remember what
Daniel told the king when the king came to peep into the lions’ dens to behold
the fate of Daniel in the midst of the lions? He told the king: “My God hath
sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me:
forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O
king, have I done no hurt.” (Daniel 6:22)
There
are great testimonies for those that are ready to hold unto their faith even in
the worst situations. Daniel’s enemies were later cast into the same lions’
den, without faith in God and in his Word, and they never came out. If you are
willing to go down with God’s Word and with faith in Him, you will come out
with God’s Word again.
It
is not possible to go down with God’s Word and be eaten up with lions. No number
of lions can eat up God’s Word. The Bible says: “For the word of God is quick,
and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrew 4:12)
No
demon can eat up God’s Word. No lion can eat up God’s Word and so no lion will
attempt to eat you up as long as you continue to hold unto God and His Word. IT
WAS DANIEL’S FAITH AND RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THAT ENABLED HIM TO CLING UNTO
GOD’S PROMISE OF PROTECTION RIGHT IN THE MIDST OF THE LIONS’ DEN.
YOU
MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AVOID GOING DOWN INTO THE LIONS’ DEN, BUT PLEASE REMEMBER TO
GO DOWN WITH GOD’S WORD. Whether you are going down or coming up, always hold
unto God’s Word. You will need the Sword of the Spirit in the lions’ den.
It
doesn’t matter the depth where God’s Word is going down to. What matters is
that God’s Word is coming up again. NOTHING IS STRONG ENOUGH TO STOP THE
FULFILLMENT OF GOD’S PROMISES IN YOUR LIFE, IF YOU ARE WILLING TO HOLD
TENACIOUSLY UNTO HIS PROMISES.
Common Mistakes we Make
The
Word of God is our life buoy on the voyage of life. When the storm hits hard
and destroys our ship, the only thing we can cling unto for our survival is the
lifebuoy. But the mistake we do often make is that when we are shipwrecked and we
cling unto the lifebuoy for some time and it appears we are still drowning, we
let go of the lifebuoy. Instead of holding tight to the lifebuoy, we let it go.
We don’t seem to trust the lifebuoy enough.
OUR
SURVIVAL AND WELFARE ARE ANCHORED ON GOD AND HIS WORD. WHEN WE ARE GOING DOWN
INSTEAD OF COMING UP, LET US REMEMBER THAT THE ONLY THING THAT CAN HELP US UP
AGAIN IS THE WORD OF GOD.
Like
the lifebuoy, we must be willing to hold tight unto God’s Word even while we
are going down. Like the lifebuoy, no sea can drown God’s Word. Even if it
appears a pressure is pushing it to go down, it cannot go down and remain at
the bottom. It will definitely come up again. IF YOU GO DOWN WITH GOD’S WORD,
YOU WILL COME UP WITH GOD’S WORD AGAIN.
YOU
MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AVOID GOING DOWN, BUT IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO DOWN WITH GOD’S
WORD, GOD’S WORD WILL LIFT YOU UP AGAIN.
The
quartet of Daniel, Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego were not exempted from going
down into captivity in Babylon despite their uprightness and constant touch
with God. But they did not remain as captives. They were elevated to the status
of princess right in Babylon where they were taken as captives.
The
difference between the quartet and the other Israeli captives is that the
quartet did not forget their God. They must have prayed many a times that
Israel should not go into captivity in Babylon. But God insisted that all of
them must go into captivity.
Seeing
that God did not save them from the Babylonian invasion, the rest of Israeli
nationals lost faith in God. It was a moment when God’s Word appeared to go
down without any hope of relying on it. It was a moment of hopelessness and
despair. It was a moment when it appears God has departed from Israel. But the
quartet made up their mind to trust God, for better or for worse. Even in the
land of captivity, they held tenaciously to God and His Word!
This
is the difference maker! IF IT BECOMES INEVITABLE THAT YOU MUST GO DOWN TO
BABYLON, NO NEED TO WORRY AND FRET. GO DOWN WITH GOD AND HIS WORD. NEVER GET
DISCOURAGED WHEN IT APPEARS GOD HAS REFUSED TO INTERVENE.
It
is a mark of faithlessness to question God when He chooses not to intervene at
the time we want Him to intervene. They quartet did not question God for
refusing to deliver Israel from captivity. They did not lose faith in God
either. Rather, they were firm in their faith and in their desire to please God
at all times.
Dear
reader, don’t be a fair-weather believer who believes that everything must go
well with him all the time. THE QUICKEST WAY OF SELLING YOUR SOUL TO SATAN IS
TO QUESTION GOD’S LOVE FOR YOU IN TIMES OF ADVERSITY. TIME OF ADEVERSITY SHOULD
BE TIME TO REKINDLE YOUR FAITH IN GOD. WHEN YOU ARE TAKING A DOWNWARD TREND, INSTEAD
OF GOING UP, CLING UNTO GOD THROUGH FAITH.
And
if you are going down in defeat, go down with the Word of God. God’s Code for
victorious living which He delivered to Joshua was that the Book of the Law
shall not depart from his mouth. THERE IS
NO DEFEAT WITH GOD’S WORD. WHEN YOU ARE ARMED WITH GOD’S WORD, YOU WILL BE
VICTORIOUS NO MATTER HOW TOUGH THE BATTLE MAY BE.
It
is the Word of God you are going down with, that will lift you up again. Your
duration at the bottom is dependent on how serious you are in holding tight
unto God’s promises for your life. If you are determined to hold tight unto
God’s Word indefinitely, you won’t remain at the bottom indefinitely.
God’s
Word will come up in full force and when it will be coming up, it will lift you
up, as long as you don’t let go of it. GOING DOWN MAY BE INEVITABLE, BUT YOU
CAN DECIDE WHETHER TO REMAIN AT THE BOTTOM OR GET BACK TO THE TOP.
In
getting back to the top, it is important to note that it is what you go down
with that will lift you up. And the only thing you can go down with which can
lift you up is God’s Word.
If,
however, you are down with nothing to hold unto, all is not lost. Begin to
rekindle your faith in God now. Believe at all times that God loves you. Trust
in His love and care for you. Believe in His Master Plan for you. Hold
tenaciously to God’s Word so that at the appropriate time, God will lift you up
to greater height!
Until
I come your way soon, hold tight unto God’s Word and claim your victory over
life’s circumstances now and always!
