How to Protect Yourself from Ebola

Ebola is one of the most deadly diseases presently and its cure is yet unknown. It found to be contracted from bush animals, including but not limited to monkey, chimpanzee and pig.

The disease was first discovered in the Democratic Republic of Congo in a community called Ebola. The disease is believed not to be airborne but contagious through direct contact with body fluids and with someone suffering from the disease.

So far, as at the time of writing this article, three persons have died of the disease in Nigeria, and it is reported that more than thirteen persons have contracted the disease in Nigeria. In the West African countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, Ebola is being spread.

1.   Wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol based hand sanitizer;

2.   Wear gloves, a mask and a long protective gown if coming within a meter of an infected patient;

3.   Avoid direct contact with bodily fluids, someone suffering from Ebola or already deceased from it; and

4.   Routine cleaning and disinfection of pig or monkey farms, with sodium hypochlorite or other detergents should be effective in inactivating the virus.
