How to Cultivate Faith for Greater Impact

To make greater impact in your generation, you must cultivate faith for accomplishing the impossible. One of the reasons we are not accomplishing more in life is that we only exercise faith in achieving the little goals we set for ourselves.

We don’t set big goals because we are afraid we may not achieve them. We exercise faith for achieving little things but when it comes to accomplishment of bigger goals, we chicken out.

 

If you want to achieve great success in life, you must cultivate faith for achieving the impossible. To cultivate faith for achieving the impossible, you must take the following steps:

1.   Operate in the Realm of Possibility

In the realm of possibility, everything is possible. What it takes to operate in the realm of possibility is faith. The Bible says: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Walking by faith makes us to see everything as possible. From time immemorial, God’s desire for us is that we should walk by faith, but instead of walking by faith, what we do most is walk by sight. We allow what we see, imagine and think to determine the height we can reach in life.

When we walk by sight, what we see constantly are failure, defeat, mediocrity, underachievement, etc. Operating in the realm of possibility requires the exercise of faith. It requires deliberate refusal to focus on impossibilities. A man who operates in the realm of possibilities believes that with God all things are possible. He believes he can achieve any goal he sets for himself. He believes that there is no opposition, obstacle, hindrance or adversity that can stop him from accomplishing greater impact in his generation.

When you operate in the realm of possibility, you will achieve those things which others conclude are impossible. You can’t operate in the realm of possibility and remain where you are. Walking by faith keeps you on the move. You move from one level to the other. You are never stagnant. You are always making progress. Learn to walk by faith day by day and you will keep making greater impact in your generation.

2.   Pray for the Impossible

To activate faith for greater impact, you must ask God for the impossible. You must ask God to do great things for you, through you and for humanity. The reason we are not making bigger impact in our generation is that we are not praying for bigger things. If we are asking God for bigger things, I believe He will grant us what we ask of Him. You cannot make greater impact in your generation if what you are asking God is your daily subsistence. 

Those who make bigger impact in their generation are people who cultivate big faith for big exploits. With zeal, passion and love for God, Elijah withheld the rain for three and one-half years and called fire from heaven to devour his sacrifice on the altar of God. Elisha, the servant of Elijah, after asking for double portion of Elijah’s spirit, did greater exploits than Elijah.

Peter did greater exploit because he was never afraid of taking giant steps of faith. He remains the disciples of Jesus that walked on water because he wasn’t afraid of asking Jesus to bid him walk on water to meet Him.

Paul laboured more than all the apostles of Jesus, took greater risks and achieved much more for God’s kingdom because he always yearned to evangelise the world.

Dear friend, what are those things you are praying to God for? Are they little things or big things? Check your prayer points. They confirm the size of the impact you will make in life. To make greater impact in your generation, your prayer points must contain seemingly impossible things you want God to do for you, through you and for humanity.

What are those goals you want to achieve which look impossible for you? Get them listed in your prayer list. Pray over them, not once or a few times, but constantly. Pull away from the school of thought that says you should not keep praying and repeating your prayers. This school of thought will make you a lazy, powerless and defeated Christian.

Instead, get enlisted in the school of thought which emphasizes that you ought to pray and not to faint. So, those seemingly impossible goals you want to achieve should become your prayer points which you pray about constantly until you achieve them.

Those who make bigger impact in their generation are not afraid of asking God for the impossible. “O Lord, give me Scotland or I die,” prayed a famous UK preacher many years ago. God answered his prayers and used him mightily to do great exploits not only in Scotland but in Europe and the world. Your duty is to pray for the impossible and God’s duty is to do the impossible.

Power of Dreams: The Honda Story!

Dreams are powerful! There is a popular parlance in the field of motivation which says: “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.”

Dreams are those goals that you are wishing, working and waiting to achieve. They are those things you wish and pray that they happen.  

Dreams are intangible, but they are real. They are indication of what you are capable of becoming or achieving. Dreams do come to pass if you care enough to hope, pray, work and wait for them to materialize.

What are those things you have been pursuing and putting in your best to achieve but have not yet achieved? The word of assurance is that you can achieve whatever you want to achieve. You can reach the height you have set for yourself.  

The story of Soichiro Honda is very illustrative in this regard. When Honda set out to invent motorcycle, people advised him in his own interest never to try it as he would fail. He ignored them and went ahead to experiment. He actually failed many a time. 

Honda once applied to work for Toyota Motor Corporation, a household name in the auto manufacturing company. He was called for interview, but they refused to employ him because they said he was not qualified for the job.

Honda focused on his goal of inventing a motorcycle and after many trials and failures, he eventually succeeded in inventing motorcycle. He did not rest on his oars, but kept innovating and eventually he branched out into manufacturing cars. Today, his company, Honda Corporation,  is competing with Toyota Motor Corporation, the same Toyota he earlier applied to work for, which refused to  employ him on the ground that he was not qualified to work for the company.

Dear friend, dreams are powerful and no matter the size of your dream, if you can hold tenaciously to it, and do the best you can, you will surely end up making your dream come true. 

Below are three steps you must take to achieve any goal you set for yourself:

1.   Be Fully Convinced  

If you are not fully convinced about what you want to achieve, it is very easy to compromise. It is one thing to have a dream, but it is quite another to be fully convinced that you can achieve your dream.

Conviction is the starting point to making your dream come true. Before you get yourself committed, it is important that you sit down to ask yourself whether what you want to achieve is another person’s dream or your own dream. Do you prefer that others should dictate to you the dream you must pursue and achieve? Or are you willing to follow and pursue your own dream?

Following your dream is following your heart. Following your heart is following your convinction. And remember: You can make your dream come true even if nobody believes you can, but if you don’t believe in yourself, you cannot realize your dream even if others believe you can.  

So, your own conviction is the key to making your dream come true. Make sure you are fully convinced before you step out to follow and pursue your dream.

2.   Be Focused

Andrew Carnegie once said: “One great cause of the failure of young men in business is the lack of concentration.”

We have much more distractions these days than there were several decades ago. The internet has ushered in networking on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, What’s App, Instagram, etc, which is okay, but when you spend greater proportion of your time networking on social media platforms instead of focusing on achieving your dream, you are not likely going to make your dream come true.

To make your dream come true, spend greater proportion of your time doing those things that will keep moving you closer and closer to realising your dream. Always shun anything that will not contribute meaningfully towards helping you make your dream come true.

3.   Ignore Negative Opinion of Others

Honda was warned in his own interest that he should not attempt to invent motorcycle as he would fail. Honda ignored the negative opinion of his friends, relations and others. He kept doing the best he could and he eventually invented motorcycle. MOST OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE WORLD COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF THE INVENTORS LISTENED TO THE NEGATIVE OPINIONS OF PEOPLE AND QUIT.

Between the negative opinion of others and your own positive opinion, it is your own positive opinion that is paramount. People sincerely but ignorantly thought that Honda could not invent motorcycle, but Honda strongly believed he could.

As far as your capability is concerned, no one knows what you are capable of becoming or doing. Only your own positive opinion about your capability will unleash the unlimited potentials within you.

If you want to stand out and be outstanding on this terrestrial ball, the only voice you must listen to is your own voice. Never listen to any voice that tells you that you cannot make it in life. Ignore any negative opinion, regardless of whose mouth the opinion is coming from.

Learn to follow your heart. You will only fulfill other people’s dream, if you allow them to tell you what you are capable of becoming and doing. The fact is, no one knows what you are capable of.

But if you follow your conviction, if you are focused, if you keep ignoring the negative opinion of others and you keep holding unto your own positive opinion about your capability, and you keep doing the best you can, you will surely end up making your dream come true.

Room for All at the Top

One of the lessons you must grab if you want to move from the bottom to the top is that there is room for you at the top. The top is not the exclusive preserve of a privileged few. There is no favourite for the top. Everybody is a candidate for the top. Everybody is destined for the top. The top is not crowded, it is spacious. The top can contain the present over 7 billion people on earth and there will still much more space left, as if no space has been occupie.

God Doesn’t Create Scarcity

Unless we grab hold of this truth, our accomplishments will be few. In John 14:2, Jesus said: “IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE ARE MANY MANSIONS: IF IT WERE NOT SO, I WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU. I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU.” As it is in heaven, so it is on earth. It is however pathetic that in our hour of frustration, we try to limit God in our thinking. When things are not going well with us, we ascribe more powers to satan and his agents rather than to God.  

This, in itself, is a sign of hopelessness, and until we rid our mind of such foolish thought, getting to the top will be a mirage. God is a big God and he does big things. God will not create over 7 billion people on earth without making available for them abundant resources.

There is scarcity, there is poverty in the world, not because God did not create enough resources to sustain humanity. The scarcity we are experiencing in the world is not orchestrated by God but by man. When God created the world, He placed in the world abundant natural and material resources to sustain animals and mankind.

But because of greed, selfishness and wickedness, we restrict these resources so that it will not circulate. While the masses are experiencing the pangs of scarcity, only very few are swimming in abundance.

Aim Very High

In spite of the scarcity and poverty created by man, you can break lose from the fetters of poverty and work your way into abundance. History is replete with people who, with sheer hardwork and determination, moved from poverty to prosperity.

 You don’t have to be born with silver spoon in your mouth to make it in life. You don’t have to have some deposit in your bank account before aiming to become financially buoyant. You don’t need to have possessions or trappings of fame before you get to the top.

ALL THAT IS REQUIRED TO MOVE FROM THE BOTTOM TO THE TOP IS TO BE DISSATISFIED WITH WHERE YOU ARE AT THE BOTTOM. You should have the realization that where you are now is not the best that God wants you to be. God is not a creator of scarcity but of abundance. God wants you to be at the place of abundance.

This is why you must choose the place of abundance. In choosing the place of abundance, you must not limit your level of effort towards attaining that place of abundance. The problem with us is that we all want abundance, but we allow scarcity, poverty and negative situations created by others around us to influence our thoughts, lifestyle and aspirations.

If you are familiar with village life and farm work, you might have come across farmers who used to say, “The farm crops I have cultivated is okay for this year. I am not the one farming to feed the whole world.”

People with this kind of scarcity mentality are not likely going to break lose from scarcity and poverty. The farm such people have  cultivated may not be enough to cater for themselves not even to talk of their family, nation or the world, but they allow scarcity and poverty mentality to influence  them negatively.

If you can grow crops to feed the whole world, that will not make your poor, rather, you become richer for it. The solution to scarcity and poverty is to aim high. Don’t allow scarcity, poverty and negative situations created by others around you to influence you not to aim very high in life. Don’t be afraid to demand great things for yourself. Regardless of the situation you find yourself, never settle for less.

To break lose from scarcity and poverty, you must believe that there is room for you at the top. In your field, trade, business or profession, believe that there is room for you at the top. AND WHAT WILL TAKE YOU TO THE PINNACLE OF YOUR FIELD OR PROFESSION IS POSITIVE ATTITUDE TO WORK. TO GET TO THE TOP, YOU MUST BE INDUSTRIOUS, SERIOUS, FOCUSED AND PERSISTENT. YOU CAN NEVER REMAIN AT THE BOTTOM, IF YOU ARE DETERMINED TO WORK YOUR WAY TO THE TOP AND YOU ARE DOING THE BEST YOU CAN.

And finally, before I round off, here are some takeaways for you:

·        Scarcity is man-made. God is the creator of abundance and He wants you to have abundance

·        In God’s agenda, every person is a candidate for the top

·        The bottom is crowded, but the top is abundantly spacious

·        All you need do to break lose from the fetters of scarcity and poverty is to be dissatisfied with where you are at the bottom presently

·        God created abundance for us and wants us to be at the place of abundance

·        In choosing abundance, never limit the level of your effort towards achieving the abundance

·        The solution to scarcity and poverty is to aim very high. Aim for abundance. Strive for abundance. Focus on abundance.

Remember, there is enough room for you at the top. Get rid of laziness; get rid of scarcity and poverty mentality. Get up now and begin to strive for the top. And as you do these, it is my hope that you will get to your place of abundance sooner than later.
