Yes, You Can Start With Little Or No Capital!

Just last Wednesday (March 15, 2017), I was discussing business matters with some acquaintances and I pointed out that if you really want to go on a Fastlane, you need to start with bigger capital. This statement I made immediately drew attention from some of them. They said: “This is contrary to what you emphasized upon in your book, HOW TO BESELF-EMPLOYED, Vol. 1. Practical, Time-tested Principles that Work for theUnemployed and the Wealth Seekers. In your book, you said one can start any business with little or no capital. Now, you are saying you need big capital to start a business. If you are holding a different point of view from what you wrote in your book, we would not be reading your book again.”

“Gentlemen,” I said excitedly as I used to say each time I am drawn into argument. Argument is part and parcel of me. In fact, I live and earn my income from argument, “there is no contradiction here,” I continued. “I still stand by everything I wrote in my book. Yes, you can start any business with little or no capital, but if you want to hit the ground running, you have to look for bigger capital.”

I went further to cite the case of late Chanchagi, who had no money to purchase aircrafts for his airline business, but started his airline company by hiring planes of other airline companies. I also pointed out that if late Chanchagi had started with bigger capital and had purchased one or more planes, his success rate would have been faster, all other things being equal.

Start Something

Like I wrote in my book, “HOW TO BESELF-EMPLOYED, Vol. 1. Practical, Time-tested Principles that Work for theUnemployed and the Wealth Seekers,” you can start with any amount at your disposal, and little by little, you grow and expand your business.

I read some time ago about a young man who ventured into a business and focused his money, time and energy in having the best office in town, and filing it with state-of-the-art office furniture and office equipment. When his grandfather asked him how his business was thriving, he replied that he was still busy putting his office in good shape and that he had not got a single client yet.

In response, his grandfather said: “Son, what you need is clients, not an office. Clients are what you need to build your business. You don’t need an office now.”

What a hard truth to swallow! Often, we tend to concentrate on things that are of less priority, thinking that by so doing, we will have a thriving business. It is okay to have a nice office. A nice office will surely attract high profile clients, but when you are starting your business from scratch, what is most important is client’s patronage.

You can start a business without an office and still thrive; but you cannot start a business without clients. You have to sell your products/services to earn income. Your focus should be on attracting clients’ patronage. Time, money and resources spent on attracting clients’ patronage is not a waste. They pay off in the end!

If You Cannot Get a Job, Employ Yourself

IF YOU CANNOT GET A JOB, EMPLOY YOURSELF. This is another point I hammered on in my book, HOW TO BESELF-EMPLOYED, Vol. 1. Practical, Time-tested Principles that Work for theUnemployed and the Wealth Seekers

The starting point to employing yourself is finding what you are passionate about and focussing your time, energy, money and resources on it. There is a saying, LOVE WHAT YOU DO AND THE MONEY WILL FOLLOW.

The way to get ahead is to get started from where you are. You can start with little or nothing. Find something you are passionate about and focus on it. As you do this, it is my hope that you will soon move from where you are to where God wants you to be.

Till I come your way soon, go and live victoriously!
