Going Down with the Word (1)

God makes a lot of promises for us in His Word and it is our responsibility to claim these promises always. God’s promises cover every aspect of our lives. THE STARTING POINT TO LIVING A VICTORIOUS LIFE IS REALIZING THE FACT THAT YOUR VICTORY IS ROOTED IN GOD’S WORD. 

If you want to be victorious in life, take God by His Word. The Word of God covers everything you desire and every goal you wish to achieve, provided they do not violate the laws of God and man.

The circumstances of life, no matter how unpleasant they may be, do not and cannot determine your destiny unless you allow them. What determines your destiny is the Word of God that you hold unto. IF YOU WANT GOD’S PROMISES TO BE FULFILLED IN YOUR LIFE, YOU MUST HOLD TENACIOUSLY TO IT.

God’s Word is the most reliable thing in this world. Only God’s Word abides forever. The storms of life will come and go, but God’s Word remains unshaken. And when you hold tight unto God’s Word even in the midst of the storm, you will never drown in the sea of life challenges.

Faith in God Activates His Word

Your victory is rooted in God’s Word. Your financial freedom is entrenched in God’s Word. Your prosperity, success, promotion, healing and dominion are embedded in God’s Word. But we cannot enjoy all these if we do not have faith in God. It is faith in God that makes you to trust and rely on His Word. It is faith in God that activates His Word and makes His Word to prevail over every negative circumstances of life. EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE OF LIFE MUST OF NECESSITY SUBMIT TO GOD’S WORD.

IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW TOUGH THE PRESENT CIRCUMSTANCES MAY BE. AS LONG AS YOU HOLD TENACIOUSLY TO GOD’S WORD, VICTORY WILL BE YOURS. You only become a loser when you let go of God’s Word. There is victory for you as long as you can hold unto God’s Word.

There will come moments when it appears God is silent. There will come moment when it appears to you that the Word of God is going down and that you will fail. These moments are crucial moments. These silent moments are moments when your faith in God is tested in the crucible. You may be tempted to look here and there, yet no hope. You may run from pillar to post, yet no relief package is forthcoming.

In times like these, it is your ability to hold unto God’s Word that matters. Your main anchor in the storms of life is your faith. As an anchor, your faith must not give way to fear.

Will your faith stand or will your faith sink? Will you allow the present unpleasant situation to drown your faith in God and in His Word? The kind of faith that prevails is the kind that holds tight unto God’s Word even when it appears the Word of God is going down and will never rise again.

God’s Love is the Foundation

Are you finding it difficult holding unto God’s Word in times of adversity? Then, listen: you are made for domination. You are not created to be overwhelmed by adversity. You are not created to be a loser in the game of life. You have to believe this.

YOUR FOUNDATION FOR VICTORY IS YOUR TRUST IN GOD’S LOVE. IF YOU DO NOT TRUST IN GOD’S LOVE OR IF YOUR TRUST IN GOD IS WANING, YOU MAY NEVER BE ABLE TO HOLD TIGHT UNTO GOD’S WORD WHEN HIS WORD IS GOING DOWN AND IS APPEARING TO FAIL YOU.

Do you believe God loves you even in times of adversity? Or do you believe in God’s love only when things are going well with you? There are some people who think or believe that things must go well before they know that God loves them. When such people find themselves under affliction, they begin to question the love of God for them.

A person who believes in God’s love only when things are going well with him is a “fair-weather believer.” Such a believer is not willing to go down with God’s Word when it is going down and appearing to fail. And because he is not willing to go down with God’s Word, he will never be able to rise up with God’s Word.

The key to holding tight unto God’s Word is trusting in God’s love. We cannot really hold tenaciously unto God’s Word until we realize that God loves us. Never is the message of Emmanuel more relevant to us than in times of adversity. “Emmanuel” means “God with us.”

The message of God’s love is not dependent on good happenings. WHETHER THINGS GO WELL WITH US OR NOT, GOD’S LOVE FOR US REMAINS UNQUESTIONABLE. AND THE FACT THAT WE ARE UNDER AFFLICTION DO NOT MEAN THAT GOD DOESN’T LOVE US. UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND THIS, YOU ARE NOT LIKELY GOING TO HOLD ON IN TIMES OF ADVERSITY.

YOUR VICTORY IS ONLY GUARANTEED AS LONG AS YOU ARE WILLING TO GO DOWN WITH GOD’S WORD. GOING DOWN WITH GOD’S WORD IMPLIES TRUSTING IN GOD’S LOVE AND MERCY EVEN WHEN IT APPEARS GOD IS NOT INTERVENING IN YOUR SITUATION.

God’s Master Plan

But you cannot and will not be ready to go down with God’s Word unless you understand God’s master plan for humanity. We can understand God’s master plan for us based on what He says in Word, the Bible. In Jeremiah 29:11 God says: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

GOD’S MASTER PLAN FOR US IS ANCHORED ON HIS LOVE FOR US. AND IF WE CANNOT BELIEVE IN GOD’S LOVE FOR US AT ALL TIMES (ESPECIALLY IN TIMES OF ADVERSITY), THEN, WE WOULD BE BEYOND REMEDY.

God loves us not only when things are going well with us; He loves us even when things are not going well with us. Circumstances do not determine God’s love for us. HE LOVES US UNCONDITIONALLY AND HE MAKES ALL CIRCUMSTANCES TO WORK FOR OUR GOOD.

Downward Trend

Downward trend here refers to a situation in which God’s promises of prosperity, success, financial freedom, healing, protection, etc are not coming to fulfillment in our lives. It is a situation in which instead of coming up, we are going down. At such a time, the Word of God we are clinging to is not keeping us afloat but sinking.

In such a situation, nothing can save you from going down. You will definitely go down. BUT WHAT MATTERS AND WHAT WILL BRING YOU BACK FROM THE BOTTOM TO THE TOP IS YOUR WILLINGNESS TO GO DOWN WITH GOD’S WORD.

If you are willing to go down with God’s Word, you will definitely come up with God’s Word. God’s Word cannot be submerged. Anything can go down and not come up again, but the only thing that can go down and still rise up again is God’s Word. As far as God’s Word is concerned, the way up is the way down. Isaiah 55:11 says: “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

If God’s Word goes down, it will come up again. Victorious Christians are those who cling unto nothing but God’s Word. The downward trend is a trend you must be familiar with. The downward trend is a period when nothing seems to work - progress stops; failure dogs the footsteps; no answers to prayers; God seems to be silent and depression sets in. All these characterize the downward trend.

When there is a downward trend, there is little or nothing you can do to reverse it. In times like these, you must be ready to go down. You must be ready to pass through those ugly situations. Whether we like it or not, we will often be compelled to take this downward trend. But it is what you go down with that matters.

THE GREATEST MISTAKE YOU WILL EVER MAKE IS REFUSING TO GO DOWN WITH GOD’S WORD. CAN YOU HOLD UNTO GOD’S PROMISES EVEN WHEN THINGS ARE GOING FROM BAD TO WORSE? CAN YOU KEEP STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD EVEN WHEN IT APPEARS THE GROUND IS SINKING? CAN YOU KEEP TRUSTING GOD EVEN WHEN THERE SEEMS TO BE NO HOPE?

Or will you allow those negative situations to make you abandon God’s promises? If you have already found yourself taking this downward trend, never lose hope. I have a word of assurance for you: DOWNWARD TREND IS NOT AN END FOR YOU. IF YOU CAN HOLD TIGHT UNTO GOD’S PROMISES AND GO DOWN WITH IT, YOU WILL COME OUT VICTORIOUS IN THE END.
