Your Dream Can Come True

It was David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church International (A.K.A. Winners’ Chapel) that said, “Every vision speaks at the end. You may look like a fool at the beginning, but as you stay on to the end, you will end up victorious.”

This positive statement of Oyedepo brings to remembrance the success story of US President, Barack Obama. In 1971, when he was 10 years old, Obama wrote in the elementary school graduating book that his ambition was to become the American president.

But his Indonesian classmates laughed and mocked at him, saying that he was only joking. The reason for their mockery was not farfetched. At that time, the myth of white supremacy in the US was solidly and firmly on ground. Nobody ever thought that a black man would ascend the office of US president.

As he grew up, Obama carried his dream /vision with him. After his high school education, he went to college and graduated from both Columbia University and Havard Law School. He thereafter took appointment as a constitutional law lecturer and later went into politics.

His foray into politics was not a smooth one. Ever bold, daring and courageous, Obama refused to be intimidated. He was determined to break all the myth that had surrounded white supremacy in America. Obama contested and won a senatorial seat in Illinois State and served seven years. Thereafter, he proceeded to the federal level where he contested for a senatorial seat at the White House and on November 2 2004, he was elected to the US Senate!

On February 10, 2007, Obama declared his candidacy for the 2008 democratic nomination for the presidency. On June 3, 2008, he became the democratic nominee for the presidency and on November 4, 2008, he was elected the 44th president of the US. He was sworn in as president on January 20, 2009, thus confirming the fact that our dreams can really come true!

You Can Make Your Dream Come True

Dear reader, one fact you must continue to hold unto if you want fulfillment is that your dream can come true. If you can dream it, you can achieve it. Are you wondering how you can make your dream come true? Then, here is a blue-print you can follow to make your dream come true.

     1.  Identify Your Dream/Vision

The starting point to achieving great success in life is to identify your dream/vision. Dream/vision here implies your ambition or what you really want to achieve or become in life. The importance of identifying your dream cannot be overemphasized. Identifying your dream helps you to avoid drifting aimlessly. Identifying your dream helps you to be focused and committed to making it come true. One of the reasons we don’t amount to much in life is that we fail to identify our dream early. Our problem most times is lack of focus.

It is our inability to identify our dream and focus on it that is denying us of the opportunity for greatness. When you are nursing the ambition to become a doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc, and you cannot identify a particular one you will pursue to a logical conclusion, it may be an indication that you are not yet set to making any of these dreams a reality.

You may have many dreams, but it is your ability to identify a particular one that you are most passionate about and focus on it that will enable you to make it come true.

It is not enough to have many dreams. You can have as many dreams as possible. You can even achieve them one at a time, but what is difficult and what will deny us of the opportunity for greatness is pursuing several dreams and focusing on all of them. It is like using a stone to kill several birds at the same time, which is very difficult.

The lesson from Obama’s story is that to avoid waste of energy, time, resources and underachievement, it is important we identify our chief ambition and focus our energy on it. As early as age 10, Obama was already having the ambition to become US president, even though it looked impossible to achieve then. Although he had several ambitions, his main ambition was to become American president, which later on in his life, he focused his energy and resources mainly to achieve.

Dear friend, if we must be great in life, we must take time to identify our dream and focus on it.

2.   Overcome “Dream Killers”

Obviously, dreams are more real to dreamers than non-dreamers. Since others are not the ones dreaming the dream you are dreaming, they are not likely going to be as passionate and enthusiastic as you are.

The implication of this is that you are not likely going to find many people who will believe in your dream. For this reason, you may NOT announce your dream to people as they can negatively influence you to abandon your dream. These set of people are those I would call the “ignorant dream killers.” I call them “ignorant dream killers” because it is not that they intentionally want to kill your dream. It is just that they don’t believe your dream is realistic or they don’t believe you can make your dream a reality.

For this reason, they are not comfortable seeing you venture into “something that will fail.” They will therefore do anything they can to discourage you to abandon your dream. They would mock you, deride you, intimidate you and try to frustrate you from pursuing your dream.

On the other hand, there is also the category of people I would call, the “intentional dream killers.” I call them “intentional dream killers” because they don’t want you to succeed. They are not comfortable with your success. It appears to them that your success will be a threat to them. They feel so threatened by your success that they would fight tooth and nail to truncate the fulfillment of your dream.

This category of dream killers are the most difficult to overcome. Since they are not comfortable with your success, they can do anything they can to kill your dream.  Examples of intentional dream killers are Joseph’s brothers. They were not comfortable with Joseph’s success.

In their human wisdom, they sold Joseph into slavery thinking that once a slave, his dream would never come true. But, alas! They were wrong! Dear friend, IF YOUR DREAM IS OF GOD, IT WILL COME TO PASS REGARDLESS OF THE ONSLAUGHT OF DREAM KILLERS. IF YOUR DREAM IS OF GOD, THERE IS NOTHING DREAM KILLERS CAN DO TO STOP YOU FROM FULFILING IT! ANYTHING THE DREAM KILLERS DO WILL TURN OUT FOR THE FULFILMENT OF YOUR DREAM!

Now, how do you know if your dream is of God? The answer is this: Any dream that is legitimate, that doesn’t deprive others of their rights is of God. Any dream that does not violate the laws of God and the laws of man is of God. God approves of such dreams and is ready to assist you in fulfilling it if you call on Him for help.

Now, how do you overcome destiny killers? The way to overcome destiny killers is to totally ignore them. Don’t pay attention to them. IT IS NOT WHAT THEY SAY THAT IS IMPORTANT; IT IS WHAT GOD SAYS THAT MATTERS. AND REMEMBER, GOD IS ALWAYS SAYING SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT YOU. YOUR ENEMIES WILL NEVER SAY ANYTHING GOOD ABOUT YOU. AND THAT IS WHY YOU MUST TOTALLY IGNORE THEM.

To overcome destiny killers, you need to study how they operate. They would begin by mocking you: “They dreamer cometh,” they would say. Later, they would insult and call you names: “The foolish dreamer is coming with his foolishness.” If you don’t mind them, they would threaten to frustrate you.
What you should do to overcome them is to ignore them. Don’t spend a minute worrying over what your enemies are doing to frustrate you. Make sure your dream is one that God approves of. You must also be prayerful.

If you have not been praying all these while, now is the time to start praying. Be connected to God through prayer. Prayer is the weapon you can use to overcome the destiny killers. Pray anyway you can. Pray without ceasing. Pray for victory over destiny killers.

I want to believe that Obama also fought and overcame destiny killers. I want to believe that there were some who mocked him during his foray into politics. There were those who called him a “dreamer,” a “joker in the pack,” an “over-ambitious human being,” etc.

I want to believe that that there were those who advised him never to contest for the presidency, as he would never win. I want to believe that there were people who tried to intimidate him and who employed diabolical means to frustrate him. But in spite of all their efforts, they failed woefully.
You can also be victorious over your enemies by being bold, daring and courageous and by refusing to be intimidated by their threats.
