The road to fortune is a road that is constructed for all and sundry. It is a road that anyone can take to earn fame and fortune. But to tread this road successfully, there is a vital lesson you must learn. And until you master this lesson and apply it constantly, you can never enjoy fame and fortune.
The
lesson you must learn to achieve great success in life is to learn to be
contented with what you have and where you are at the moment.
Contentment and Complacency
For
purpose of clarity, contentment is not synonymous with complacency. Contentment
simply means feeling of satisfaction in spite of present situation, while
working and waiting for better times.
Complacency
on the other hand is a situation in which a person is so satisfied and comfortable
with the present situation that he doesn’t think of aiming higher or aspire for
greater achievement.
A
complacent person is not interesting progress. A complacent person is one who believes
he has arrived. The implication of complacency is that industry is disregarded,
diligence is stopped, creativity is shunned, and productivity is stifled; while
laziness, mediocrity, leisure, hedonism and average are glorified.
A
contented person on the other hand is satisfied, not necessarily because
everything is going well with him, but because he need to maintain a positive
attitude which is what he needs to bring positive change.
A
contented person does not rest on his oars and he does not allow negative
situations to discourage him from working in order to make more progress in
life.
A
truly contented person is industrious, diligent, creative and productive. To work
into fortune, you must know how to use contentment to propel and power your
life for greater accomplishment.
How
can you use contentment to power your life for greatness? Here is a blue-print
you can follow:
1. You Have an Edge
The
fact is, no matter how worse the situation may be, you are better than others.
You may be thinking that your world has turned upside down. The future may look
gloomy, but it is important to note that you are still better than others.
Those
things you are having presently that you don’t seem to value are things others
don’t have and are praying to have. You may think your condition is worse, but
the fact is, there are some persons that are wishing to be like you.
The
peace of mind you are blessed with, which you may not value, is a priceless
asset that money cannot buy. This is why you must be contented with the present
situation and with your life while working and waiting for the best.
2.
No
Condition is Permanent
To
walk into fortune, it is important to note that NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT.
There is a life span for every situation and there is a life time for every
problem. Things are not programmed to work against you forever. No situation or
problem is permitted to confront you all your life.
To
be contented, it is important to realize that there is time for everything. The
Bible says: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under
the heaven. (Eccl 3:1). And in Eccl. 7:14, it is written: “In the day of
prosperity, be joyful but in the day of adversity, consider: God also hath set
the one over against the other to the end that man should find nothing after
him.
If
things are not moving smoothly as you want, this does not mean that things
would continue that way for ever. Things can turn around for the better any
time, any day, anywhere. For this reason you should not allow the present
unpleasant situation to becloud your view. Keep working and waiting for the
best that is always around the corner.
3. Attitude of Gratitude
Regardless
of the condition you are in and how bad you feel, the truth is that there are
many things you have to be thankful to God for. Contentment begins when you
start to realize that in spite of the present unpleasant situation, there are
many things to be grateful to God for.
There
is a great lesson to learn from the story of Eddie Rickenbacker. Eddie was a
fighter pilot in the World War II. In one of his flight operations, he ditched
his plane in the ocean. He and his crew floated on a raft for three weeks on
the ocean without food and fresh water. They prayed and hoped to be rescued.
When they were eventually rescued, Eddie said: “For the rest of my life, if I
have a roof over my head and food, I will never complain about anything.”
Here
is a man who had gone through it all. Prior to his plane crash, Eddie probably
had never stayed for three weeks without food and fresh water! The condition
could not have been what he prayed for, yet he had no choice than to endure,
pray and hope for rescue. After he and his crew were rescued, Eddie learnt the
life time lesson of being grateful for any situation he found himself.
Dear friend, if you have not been rescued from a near-death situation, you may not wish to appreciate this gift of life that God has given to you. When last did you thank God for your life? Do you know that there are people who are passing through situations that are far worse than the one you are passing through?
Do
you want to be rescued from disaster or death before you start expressing your
gratitude to God? You may not like the situation you are in now, but the fact
that your own situation is far better than those of others, should make you to be
appreciative and grateful to God.
THE
PATH TO FORTUNE IS CONTENTMENT AND CONTENTMENT COMES WHEN YOU BEGIN TO COUNT
YOUR BLESSING. THE FRESH AIR YOU BREATHE, THE SOUND HEALTH YOU ENJOY, THE FOOD,
CLOTHING AND SHELTER YOU HAVE, ARE THINGS YOU SHOULD BE THANKFUL TO GOD FOR.
That

not value your ability to read and write, but do you know that there are many

have a friend in the village who used to tell me: “Look Sunday, if I were
literate I would not live the wayward and corrupt life that many of these

friend, there are many things you must be thankful to God for. You can never be
truly contented until you start counting your blessings and thanking God for
them. It is when you do this that God will be committed to elevate you to a
more enviable status.
4. Everything that Comes Your Way is an Opportunity
There
are many people who find it difficult to believe that the unpleasant situation
they are passing through is the will of God for their lives. For these people,
it is only when everything is going well with them that they can say that the
situation is God’s will for them.
But
what does the Bible say concerning this? The Bible says, in everything (not
some things) we should give thanks to God for it is His perfect will concerning
us. If some of us were Paul and Silas, we would never want to preach any more.
Nothing can be as deceptive as wishing and praying to live a trouble-free life.
What we call problems are most times opportunities that God is sending on our
way. It is our ability to recognize the opportunities in the problems that
makes the difference.
THE
STARTING POINT TO LIVING A GREAT LIFE IS REALISING THE FACT THAT EVERYTHING
THAT COMES YOUR WAY IS AN OPPORTUNITY. CONTENTMENT BEGINS WHEN YOU REALISE THAT
THE PROBLEMS YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT CONTAIN OPPORTUNITIES THAT YOU CAN
CAPITALISE UPON FOR YOUR GREATNESS.
I
agree with Napoleon Hill when he said: “Every problem contains the seed of
greater benefit.” It is your responsibility to discover and tap into the
opportunities inherent in the problems confronting you.
If
you cannot find opportunities, ask God to open your eyes to them. You can never
be contented and walk into fortune until you start discovering opportunities
from problems and situations and start tapping into them.
