I see this year as a year of ample opportunities for you. I see this year as a year every success seeker will find his/her goldmine. This is not a prophecy. It is the reality!

We live in the world of opportunities. Opportunities abound everywhere. And as a year passes by and we enter into a new year, many opportunities are created. Each New Year comes with new challenges. Things may not go smoothly as you want. There will always be problems and difficulties, but in the midst of the problems and difficulties lie opportunities.

Most times we complain of so many problems confronting us, but we fail to realize that each of these problems is laden with opportunities. If God should take away all the problems confronting us, we would be deprived of the opportunities for growth and progress which are inherent in those problems.

 Napoleon Hill, author of the bestselling motivational titled Think and Grow Rich, said: “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache, carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.”

IF THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS, THERE WILL BE NO OPPORTUNITIES. AS LONG AS THIS WORLD EXISTS, PROBLEMS ARE NOT LIKELY GOING TO GO AWAY. AND THE IMPLICATION OF THIS IS THAT THERE WILL ALWAYS BE OPPORTUNITIES. Unfortunately, we most often focus on the problems rather than on the opportunities.

No wonder someone said: “MANY PEOPLE WILL NOT RECOGNIZE OPPORTUNITIES EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE WRITTEN ON A PLACARD.” If our focus is always on problems confronting us, we would not be able to recognize opportunities inherent in those problems.

We cannot enjoy true success and be fulfilled until we stop focusing on problems confronting us and start discovering and utilizing the opportunities inherent in those problems.

If you are always having financial challenges, opportunities for wealth creation will keep coming your way. If you are always having health challenges, opportunities for getting well and enjoying sound health will always be coming your way. If you are always being disappointed, many more opportunities for getting better appointment will keep coming to you. There is no problem that comes to you which doesn’t contain a seed of equal or greater benefit.

How to Discover Your Goldmine

The important question that requires concrete answer is: “How can I discover and utilize the opportunities inherent in the problems confronting me?” The answer to this question is not farfetched. Below are three steps you can take to discover and exploit your own goldmine:

1.   Don’t Use Problems as an Excuse

Many a time, we try to establish the erroneous belief that because of certain problems confronting us, we cannot amount to anything in life, but that is absolute fallacy. The fact is: it is not the problems confronting us that are holding us back from being the best that God want us to be. Our main problem is our inability to discover the seed of equal or greater benefit embedded in the problems.

The story of music phenomenon, Jose Feliciano remains a great inspiration to me. Feliciano was born blind in Puerto Rico his country. When he was growing up, life was very difficult for able-bodied Puerto Ricans, not even to talk of persons with physical challenges.

In the midst of the hardship, Feliciano took a step that eventually transformed him into a renowned super singer. The step he took was to learn how to play guitar. He taught himself guitar until his fingers bled.

With hard work, patience and perseverance, he broke into the ranks of highly successful musicians in the world. One of his popular songs is Felic Navidad, a fantastic Christmas carol played everywhere in the world. Last December when I visited his website and read his programme of events and the various places he was going to perform, I became convinced that this great singer is no doubt a successful and fulfilled man.

What inspires me about Feliciano is that he didn’t use his physical challenge as an excuse for failure, even though it would have been a genuine excuse anyway. Worthy of note also is the fact that he taught himself guitar and mastered it!

Dear reader, WHEN YOU ARE DETERMINED TO SUCCEED IN LIFE, THERE IS NO DISABILITY OR SHORTCOMING THAT CAN HOLD YOU DOWN IN DEFEAT! YOU MUST RESOLVE NEVER TO ALLOW ANYTHING TO HINDER YOU FROM BEING THE BEST GOD WANTS YOU TO BE.

Let the story of Jose Feliciano be a great inspiration to you. NO EXCUSE IS REASONABLE ENOUGH TO STOP YOU FROM MAKING IT IN LIFE. The problem confronting you that you think is the obstacle hindering you from succeeding in life contains a seed of equal or greater benefit. And the way to discover this greater benefit is to stop seeing the problem as an impediment. Now, consider this: If Feliciano did not have physical challenge, perhaps he would not have discovered his music talent and achieved fame and fortune.

2.   Find Your Passion

The secret of Feliciano’s success is that he discovered his passion and planted himself there. One fact about passion is that it keeps you busy doing that very thing you are passionate about. When you are passionate about a thing, you will keep doing it even when nobody is paying you a dime for it.

Interestingly, it is what you are busy at all the time that is your business. Your fame and fortune are tied to what you love doing. Your talent lies in what you love doing. Once you have discovered what you love doing, you have discovered your talent.

Your talent is your goldmine. You don’t need any other. Feliciano loved music. He was always busy singing and playing the guitar, which he learned from no one. This later brought him fame and fortune. What he was always busy doing became his business.

Like Feliciano, your passion is what you love doing all the time. There must be something legitimate that you find yourself doing all the time. It is that thing you love doing which keeps you busy all the time, that should become your business (goldmine).

Presently, your passion may not fetch you income, but you have to plant yourself there and keep developing your talent and skills. WHEN YOU HAVE FULLY DEVELOPED YOUR TALENT, PEOPLE WILL GLADLY PAY YOU ANY PRICE YOU ASK THEM TO PAY.

What is your passion? What is it you love doing which keeps you busy all the time? Have you considered making it your business? IF YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE GREATNESS IN LIFE, YOU’VE GOT TO START THINKING OF WAYS YOU CAN TURN YOUR PASSION TO YOUR GOLDMINE.

3.   Think Positively

One of the hardest things for us is thinking, yet it is one of the greatest assets given to us freely by God. It is not that we don’t have the ability to think; it is just that we find it difficult to sit down and think. Instead of thinking, what most of us do is worrying and worrying has never solved problems for any person, rather, it compounds the problem and even affects our health negatively.

Our mind is the machine God gives us to use in solving problems that confront us. Every problem that confronts us has a solution. The solution is in the mind. If we can sit down and think, we will discover the solutions to the problem confronting us.

The mistake many of us make is that we allow people or employ them to do our thinking for us. But others’ opinion or thought may not provide the real solutions to our problems. If we can do our thinking ourselves, we may even come up with better solutions to our problems.

It is therefore advisable that even if others are doing your thinking for you, you should also learn to sit down and think your own thoughts. Learn to trust your own thinking ability.

The way to trigger solutions to your problems is to sit down calmly for 15-60 minutes or even more every night and ask yourself questions concerning the solutions to your problems. For instance, you can sit down and ask yourself the following questions: 

• What are the opportunities inherent in this problem?

• What are the ways I can solve this problem?

•  What are the main solution I can apply to solve this problem?

• Where can I apply the solution?

• When can I apply the solution?

• How can I apply the solution?

• Who can be of assistance?

• Which five lucrative businesses can I establish to solve my financial problem?

• What is the minimum capital I can use to start any of these businesses?

• What are the ten ways I can obtain the capital to run my businesses?

• In the absence of loan, what is the minimum amount I can raise to start my business?

• What are the legitimate jobs I can do to earn the minimum capital that I can use to start my proposed business?

Dear reader, if you can sit down and ask yourself the above questions constantly, soon, your mind will start generating the ideas and solutions to your problems. Ensure you have a pen and paper with you so that you can jot down ideas and solutions that will occur to you. Also ensure that you put those ideas and solutions to practice.
